Final Roller Furler 004.MOV

DIY Home Made Roller Furler should allow you to change sails without disconnecting the forestay cable. Should also allow you to reef, after the brass hanks are removed. For rope loops use strong enough line that holds a knot well. Care should be taken to safety wire the turnbuckle lock nut before use. You may have to buy a different turnbuckle nut or have one modified for safety wire. If you don’t remove the hanks you could damage the sail easily. Need 1″ internal coupling method, let me know if you have an idea for that. Thanks to those who posted their versions of the PVC roller furler , from which this is derived. Many thanks to my friend Gabe who did most of the work on this reefing roller furler. Before lowering the sail, hook an extension line (messenger line) to the dedicated halyard, as the halyard isn’t long enough when lowering the sail. We made the halyard short so the stored line didn’t tangle in the spinning roller furler.

Halyard Bend

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

In sailing, a halyard or halliard is a line that is used to hoist or pull up a sail a sail, a flag or a yard. The knot associated with the halyard is called the Halyard Bend. Although it’s more a hitch than a bend. The knot has many uses and once set you don`t really need to be revisiting them. This makes the Halyard Bend a very reliable and secure hitch.

Half flag pole practice

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

This is after a workout at boot camp so I’m tired and my lines and speed are sloppy. The move sequense is climb, then drop into a classy lady (aka cross ankle release), drop into a kind of a bow-and-arrow leg hold, and then drop into a half flag. Thanks for watchin’! :)
